Get To Know You Song

The following lyrics are from a song that I released as a split-single with my friend Ben Knollenberg on Nov 12, 2010.  You can hear and download that single here.

We play everyday
But you don’t say
or know my name.
I will call out to you.
You won’t know what to do.
Ask. Ask me my name
so we can play
some real games.
There is so much to do
if you know me and you.

I’d like to know just where you’re from.
I’d like to ask how far you’ve come.
And I know if I get to know everybody else
they will get to know me I’ll feel better ’bout myself.
Myself.

Now that we’re at school
I can say
That you are cool.
It wasn’t like that then,
Once you have got a friend.
I, I feel so great
To know that you
Know my name.
Now that we “have to do”
Guess what we get to do.

Poem/Lyrics idea, 10/18/10

Here’s the beginning idea of a new poem/lyrics/whatever that I’ve head in my head for a few days.  Before I get in bed, I just want to capture it here and work with it later.

I’m jealous of your black skin.
I know I shouldn’t be.
At least that’s what History
Tried to tell me.

Neil Young – Le Noise (and a noteworthy p.s.!)

So, Neil Young’s new album Le Noise arrived in the mail this weekend and awaited me when I got back from DC tonight.  I’m gonna put it in, listen to the first track, and tell you about it.

1. Wow, the first less-than-a-second of this album sets its entire tone immediately.  Or at least, I hope so.  I guess the idea between this work (a collaboration between Young and Producer Daniel Lanois) is just Neil on guitar and vocals, and lots of effects and layers.  The first song “Walk With Me” starts with a VERY LOUD thud of a guitar chord–extra fuzzy, but not sludgy or anything.  This is weird, it’s rockin quite hard, but there are no drums at all.  The genre that popped up when I imported it was “Country & Folk.”  I guess that’s what they’re doing…but with lots of heavy electric guitars (and some doodle-work/loopiness), and delayed-vocals.

Alright!

Do it Neil, do it!

p.s.
DC was awesome, but this looks like I missed a good weekend!
And CHECK THIS OUT!
